Snowflakes!

I was out Christmas tree shopping yesterday when I saw the cutest little snowflakes. They were covered in glitter, so I couldn't tell how they had been made, but they were really cool... so I made my own! Mine haven't been covered in glitter, but I like them anyway.

I started out with you basic, average, everyday stick.
I actually started out with two sticks, but that's irrelevant. Notice how these are all.. bendy, attached, big, etc?
Well, I chopped them into pieces. Now they're all relatively straight, but more importantly have no forks.
I then sorted them by size...
And cut the largest ones into matching pairs, and glued them into 'X'-es, like so.
Next, I took medium sized ones (from the middle pile), cut them appropriately, stuck glue on the end, and held them up to the middle until they stuck. The important thing to note here is that, A) I'm using hot glue, and B) I didn't try to have the secondary ones go across the middle- I cut them in half and glued them in. Trust me, it's a lot messier and easier that way.
Next, I started adding tiny sticks to form the snowflake pattern that I wanted.
This is a close-up on how I glued. It might help some people, but I'm not sure how much I myself would be helped by this.
And this is my 3/4-of-the-way-done snowflake #1!
That's where I quit taking pictures and just let my creativity run wild, sorry. Here are the three that I was able to make out of those two branches and two sticks of hot glue. Really, though, it was more like 1 1/2... but I digress.
This one is my least favorite, but it's still cool.
Then this one. I think it looks more detailed than it really is because of the shadows.
....And my favorite! I really like how this one turned out with the double prongs.
I conveniently happened upon some Christmas-colored phone wire sitting in the hallway.. hope it wasn't important, because I used it!
 To do this^^^
<<< and this!!
vvvv (downward arrows) and this!

Essentially, I wrapped them in colors, because I thought they looked cool, and the wire provides a niftily convenient way of hanging these beauties!

Hmm... order weirdness... these are close-ups of the other two snowflakes!

And this ^^ and this >> (same thing, different view), is what I ended up doing with them! I think they turned out rather nicely. If I do another batch, I might even spray paint or glitter them like the ones at the store!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

(or, if you prefer, Merry Christmahanukwanzikaa!)
