I started with two chains and two old shoelaces. I never actually used these, but I think siblings did. They were in the craft drawer. Pretty sure anything could work, but a solid and a braid/pattern work really well together.
Trying to stay true to the inspiration (and make it stay chunky-ish), I stuck everything through a connector link and doubled them.
Then I braided.
At the end of the braid, for convenience sake, I connected all four ends of the chain.
After which I proceeded to wrap the end of the braid with a wire. I ended up undoing the hook and just wrapping it.
Final product of wrapping.
This is what it looked like at this point. Not that long.. Might I suggest starting out with a lot more stuff than you think you need, especially if you want a necklace. The chain was the limiting factor for me, but still.
I then trimmed the ends, but as you can see, the ends of shoelaces fray when cut.
So I taped the ends with black electrical tape.
And it looks like this.
And I attached about three links of large-ish chain to the other end so the claw would have something to grab onto. It's unfortunate that the claw doesn't match the other metal, but I ran out of brass ones.
And this is the final product! The clasp doesn't even stand out too badly. If I did this again, I might try it with gold chain with green, or silver chain with blue.
